Day Eight - June 26, 2006

Leroy and I rolled out of bed late today, but I pushed him out the door, and we went on a bike ride to a local park. He didn't play much at the park, but loved the ride with mom (we have a trailer that attaches to my bike). When I get a replacement life-vest, I'm taking him down to the river with the bike.

I've been having sleep problems the last few nights. The heat combined with tension over workplace is keeping me up, and now that I'm in a poor sleep pattern (up late, then up late) it's making it worse. Wish me luck with the sleep gods.

Leroy is settling in. I'm taking this opportunity to work with him on conversation (he is facile in starting conversations), and I've gotten him to agree to being supervised (or ask for supervision) in the kitchen, in return for teaching him to make his own food. He's going to be eight, so he is definitely old enough to make his own re-heated spaghetti. While not perfect, he's earned a movie trip on Tuesday.

I'm in full planning mode for our vacation to Southern California next week. The trip will be bittersweet. There is a memorial for my grandfather who died in May, but were also going to that family's reunion, and doing a one-day trip to Disneyland. Since we're on a budget, I'm having to be careful with spending.
